Stillroom Eight
$129.00
Stillroom Eight is an eight-note steel tongue drum for beginners practicing in shared homes. It measures 25.4 cm across and comes with silicone-tipped mallets. Its D minor pentatonic tuning gives you five distinct pitches across eight tongues, with no tuning controls to learn. A 5 mm felt mat separates the base from a tabletop. The drum remains audible to other people nearby.

For a ten-minute break at home
Set the drum on its felt mat at a desk or kitchen table. The numbered chart lets a first-time player follow short patterns without reading staff notation. Use a light mallet stroke when someone else is in the room. This is an acoustic instrument, not a silent practice device.
Eight tongues, five distinct pitches
The notes are D4, F4, G4, A4, C5, D5, F5 and G5. Repeated pitches in the higher octave let you move a short phrase up the drum's range. All eight notes belong to the D minor pentatonic scale. That makes free playing easier, but it does not replace every note needed for a song.
Steel shell with a felt base mat
The shell is powder-coated carbon steel. Each tongue has a printed number that matches the note chart. The included felt mat measures 28 cm across and is 5 mm thick. It cushions the drum against a hard surface; it does not soundproof the room.
What comes with the drum
The drum comes with two silicone-tipped mallets and a felt mat. A numbered note chart is included. The zippered polyester bag has two handles for carrying the 1.8 kg instrument.

The numbers helped me start without reading music. I keep it on the mat at my desk.
Light taps work well for a short break at home. My partner can still hear it in the same room.
The chart was easy to follow. I found it more comfortable on a table than on my lap.
